There are all sorts of obstacles that may cause you to trip, slip or fall. It could be due to a broken pavement, a spillage that has no warning for the public, or perhaps trailing wires with nothing to cover them, or any warnings. Hopefully the worse that will happen is that you feel a bit silly and sometimes shaken up, but if you pull a muscle, suffer whiplash, fall and hurt yourself, or damage your clothing you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation.

What should I do if I have a trip, slip or fall as a result of someone's negligence?

If you suffer a personal injury as a result of someone else's negligence you should try to get photos of whatever it was that caused you to slip or fall. If you are photographing an uneven pavement, or a pothole it is worth including something in the photo to give it a sense of scale, perhaps a ruler, or something else that people will recognize and know the size of.

Next contact Edwards Hoyle and arrange a meeting with one of our Personal Injury specialists. We'll advise you whether we believe you have strong grounds for pursuing compensation and if you do we will take on your case.

If you have suffered an injury that will have been stressful enough as it is. Edwards Hoyle's specialists are great at putting you at ease and taking the worry away. We will make the claims process straightforward and get it underway immediately for you. If you still need medical attention such as physiotherapy, we will arrange that for you.

What if I fell or slipped in the supermarket, or on council owned land such as on the pavement?

Although the idea of an individual making a claim against a big company or the council may seem really daunting these corporate and public bodies have a duty of care to look after spaces where the public have access and it is their responsibility to assess and avoid risk. We will deal with the insurers and they will generally settle out of court using guidelines designed to ensure that compensation claims are fair and reasonable across the country.

How much will it cost me to make a claim?

It will not cost you a penny. We work under what's called a no win no fee arrangement and even if the claim is unsuccessful you won't have to pay. Provided you are awarded damages for your accident you will receive 100% of the amount agreed as our fees will be covered by the party at fault.

What if my accident was a while ago?

If you can prove the cause of the accident then we may still be able to make a claim for you, but that may prove difficult if you did not take photos or other evidence at the time. You must claim within three years unless the impact of the accident takes longer than that to manifest itself.
